We live and ride here. This is the guide we hand to every customer: where the village is, how safe it is, which beaches and breaks to chase, where the locals actually eat and how to string it all together on a scooter.
Book on WhatsAppPunta de Mita is a small fishing-turned-surf village on the north point of Banderas Bay, in the state of Nayarit, México — about 45 minutes from Puerto Vallarta International Airport (PVR). It sits at the entrance of Riviera Nayarit, right next to the upscale resorts of the Punta Mita peninsula, but the village itself is relaxed, walkable and full of local life.
Its location is the magic: sheltered water inside the bay, jungle roads behind it, and the surf towns of Sayulita (about 20 minutes) and San Pancho (about 30 minutes) up the coast — all connected by the coastal highway. From here, the whole north-bay coastline is a short scooter ride.
One note travelers always ask about: the village isPunta de Mita("Punta Mita" without the "de" is the resort peninsula's brand). We operate exclusively in Punta de Mita.
Yes — Punta de Mita is one of the calmer corners of Banderas Bay. It is a small village where people greet you on the street, the main roads are paved and the beach strips are busy until well after dark. The normal beach-town rules apply: don't leave valuables unattended, lock your scooter, and keep your helmet on.
Banderas Bay's north point keeps punchy rights, long playful lefts and mellow beginner waves — sometimes all in the same week. Rent a scooter and chase conditions: when one break closes out, the next one is 20 minutes away.

A jungle-trail walk to one of the friendliest, longest lefts and rights in the bay. Our racks take boards up to 8'0", so bring your own or rent on site.
Right in front of town: mellow peelers, surf schools and palapas with cold beers waiting after the session. Best first surf lesson on the coast.
Quieter sand and sunset water. Ride the coast road south of town with a board on the rack and find your own corner.
